Enrica also served two different kinds of honey, both gathered locally by relatives, surrounded by squares of delicate ricotta cheese.
My cousin, Serafino, pouring a glass of Carlone’s homemade wine.
Delectable pastries made by Angelina. After a long, tiring day on the ferry up and back to Switzerland, she stayed up late to make these delicacies for our dessert the next day.
My dear cousins, Enrica and Daria, enjoying a toast to la famiglia with glasses of champagne.
After lunch, ready to say goodbye until next time. Back row: Simone, Serafino, and Dad. Front row: Angelina, Enrica, Dirce, Mom, me, and Carlone. Cousins of the Brovelli kind.
Cousins Adriana and son, Claudio Brovelli (former mayor of Somma Lombardo). (We’re a smart bunch.)

(We also drink a lot of wine.) Dad and Carlone sharing a toast (make that bottle) of Carlone’s fabulous homemade vino. Despite the language barrier, these two managed to tease and insult each other all afternoon, trading hilarious barbs that kept the table in stitches. The first time we met Carlone, we all did a double-take. He looks exactly like first cousin Louie back in California, only shorter.
